Challenge

The risk analysis under Section 5 GwG and the business-wide risk assessment process under the AMLR are the foundation of all money laundering prevention and the first thing examined by supervisory authorities and internal audit. However, many analyses are merely formal, outdated, or not linked to the actual controls. The AMLR and the RTS require a data-based approach with a comprehensible methodology that systematically assesses customer, product, transaction, distribution, and country risks and translates the results into customer classification and monitoring.

Learning objectives
  • You know the requirements for risk analysis and risk management under the GwG, the AMLR, and the RTS.
  • You develop a risk model with risk factors, weighting, and scoring for inherent risk and residual risk.
  • You assess the effectiveness of controls and derive measures and resources from this.
  • You transfer the model into customer risk classification and the management of due diligence obligations.
  • You document, update, and report on the risk analysis in an audit-proof manner.
